Phytophthora Root and Collar Rot of Paulownia, a New Disease for Europe
نویسندگان
چکیده
Paulownia species are fast growing trees native to China, which being grown in managed plantings several European countries for the production of wood and biomasses. In 2018, wilting, stunting, leaf yellowing, collapse, as a consequence root crown rot, were observed around 40% 2-year-old planting elongata × P. fortunei Calabria (Southern Italy). Two Phytophthora consistently recovered from roots, basal stem bark, rhizosphere soil symptomatic identified Ph. nicotianae palmivora on basis both morphological characteristics phylogenetic analysis rDNA ITS sequences. Koch’s postulates fulfilled by reproducing symptoms potted paulownia saplings transplanted into infested or stem-inoculated wounding. Both pathogenic caused rot cankers. Even though was only roots naturally infected plants, pathogenicity tests through more virulent. This is first report Europe. Strategies prevent this emerging disease include use healthy nursery choice well-drained soils new plantations, proper irrigation management.

Identification of a new phytophthora species causing root and runner rot of cranberry in new jersey.
ABSTRACT In New Jersey, Phytophthora cinnamomi is the pathogen most commonly isolated from diseased roots and runners of the cultivated cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon). A second distinct species of Phytophthora has been isolated from dying cranberry plants and surface irrigation water. This species is homothallic with paragynous antheridia and ellipsoid-limoniform, nonpapillate sporangia. It ...

Western Australia is unique in its botanical diversity. There are over 7000 species of native vascular plants of which over 3000 are endemic (Keighery 1992). Phytophthora cinnamomi has a major impact on this diverse flora and directly effects over 2000 species from a diverse range of plant families (Wills 1993). Its indirect effects in terms of botanical impact through the loss of vertebrate an...
متن کاملManagement of Phytophthora Root and Runner Rot in Cranberry
Phytophthora is a genus of plant pathogens, many species of which live in water or soil. The name means “plant destroyer” in Greek. Phytophthora species are common pathogens in agricultural systems, especially in those where the crop is irrigated with surface or recycled water. In cranberry culture, the most troublesome species is P. cinnamomi, the cinnamon fungus. This pathogen causes a very c...
متن کاملMicrobiota Characterization of Compost Using Omics Approaches Opens New Perspectives for Phytophthora Root Rot Control
Phytophthora root rot caused by Phytophthora nicotianae is an economically important disease in pepper crops. The use of suppressive composts is a low environmental impact method for its control. Although attempts have been made to reveal the relationship between microbiota and compost suppressiveness, little is known about the microorganisms associated with disease suppression. Here, an Ion To...
